Easy "Trash" Cookies

As I continue on this baking journey that I'm on, I'm slowly realizing that I thoroughly enjoy baking cookies. I wanted to bake something chocolaty but NOT just a chocolate chip cookie. So I took a look around my kitchen to see what I could find that would taste yummy in a cookie. My boyfriend picked me up a couple packages of Fudge Brownie M&Ms when I was sick earlier in the week and instantly thought that they would taste good in a cookie. I found some mini chocolate chips and peanut butter filled pretzel nuggets. I thought "why not?" and used the M&Ms, mini chocolate chips, and peanut butter pretzels in my chocolate chip cookie recipe. This "trash" cookie recipe is so fun to play around with. That's the fun thing about baking "trash" cookies: you can add anything your heart desires.

"Trash" Cookies

Ingredients:

  1. 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
  2. 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  3. 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  4. 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  5. 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  6. 1/2 teaspoon salt (or however much to taste)
  7. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  8. 1 large egg
  9. 2 packages of Fudge Brownie M&Ms**
  10. 1 1/2 cups mini chocolate chips**
  11. 10 peanut butter filled pretzel nuggets cut in half**

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350. Line two baking trays with parchment paper or with a silicone mat.
  2. Put butter in a microwave safe bowl and microwave until melted. Let it cool for a minute before adding it to the sugars.
  3. Mix together the butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar until combined.
  4. Once the butter and sugars are combined, add the egg and the vanilla extract.
  5. Add the salt, baking soda, and flour. Stir until everything is combined. The dough will be slightly tacky.
  6. Slowly fold in the chocolate chips, M&MS, and pretzels. The dough should be full of all the chocolate chips, M&Ms, and pretzels.
  7. Using a cookie scoop, scoop the dough and roll into balls. Try to make sure to get one of every add-in if possible. Place the rolled cookies onto prepared baking trays.
  8. Bake cookies for 11 minutes. The cookies will be just done and still chewy in the middle.
  9. Let cool on tray for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. They will firm up a bit more while they cool.
**Note: you can use whatever you want in these cookies! Any kind of M&Ms or Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I just used what I found in my kitchen.

Oh man, are they cookies delicious! And so much fun to make! Those Fudge Brownie M&Ms got so melty and gooey, it added another level of flavor to the cookies. Then you get the saltiness from the peanut butter pretzels. I love desserts that are sweet but also a little salty. Honestly, it's just so much fun creating recipes like this. Especially since there are ingredients already in your home to use. Just get creative with it!
